Thakurgaon District is a district in northwestern Bangladesh. It is part of the Rangpur Division and borders India to the west. It was established as a mahakuma in 1860 consisting of 7 thanas named Thakurgaon sadar, Baliadangi, Pirganj, Ranishankail, Haripur, Bhulli and Ruhia. In 1947, it was re-established as a mahakuma including 3 thanas of Jalpaiguri and a thana of Kochbihar of India. In 1981, Atoari was included in the new Panchagarh district and the area was shrunk in 5 thanas. It was established as a district on 1 February 1984. It is about 467 km from Dhaka.
Economy:
Agriculture 76.74%, non-agricultural labourer 2.84%, industry 0.36%, commerce 9.05%, transport and communication 2.34%, service 3.91%, construction 0.76%, religious service 0.11%, rent and remittance 0.17% and others 3.72%.

Thakurgaon Sugar Mill, Palace of Raja Tonka Nath, Medini Sagar Jame Masjid, Jamalpur Zamindarbari Jame Mosque, Jagadal Rajbari, Haripur Rajbari, Ramrai Dighi, Shalbari Mosque and Imambara.
