Madaripur is a district in central Bangladesh and a part of the Dhaka Division. Madaripur subdivision was established in 1854 within Bakerganj district. In 1873, it was separated from Bakerganj and annexed to Faridpur district. Madaripur subdivision was turned into a district in 1984. Madaripur district was named after the Sufi saint Sayed Badiuddin Ahmed Zinda Shah Madar.
Economy:
Agriculture 61.33%, non-agricultural labor 2.59%, industry 0.84%, business 15.46%, transport and communication 2.27%, construction 1.71%, religious services 0.2%, Employment 7.25%, Rent and Remittance 0.87% and Others 7.48%.
Culture:
Gazi song, Kirtan, Dhuagaan and Trinath Mela, Sangkranti Mela, Rath Mela, Kumbh Mela of Ganesh Pagal etc. are popular in this district. Besides, the Matua community (Rajair) of the district organizes Matua Sangeet during Durga Puja.
