Geography: 

Dhaka District shares borders with Gazipur and Tangail to the north, Munshiganj and Rajbari to the south, Narayanganj to the east and Manikganj to the west. The main rivers flowing through this district are Buriganga, Shitalakshya and Turag. The annual average temperature of the district is maximum 41.1 °C, minimum 11.5 °C; the average annual rainfall 1931 mm.

Administrative Sub-division:

The five sub-divisions (Upazilas) in Dhaka district are:

  1. Dhamrai Upazila
  2. Dohar Upazila
  3. Keraniganj Upazila
  4. Nawabganj Upazila
  5. Savar Upazila

The municipal area of Dhaka City is under the jurisdiction of the Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation.

Places must visit: 

The historic city of Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh and lies on the banks of the Buriganga River in the central area of Bangladesh. Places are geographically divided into 2 parts; i.e some are located in old Dhaka and rest are in new Dhaka and outside the municipal areas. 

Old Dhaka:

Buriganga river, Lalbagh Fort, Ahsan Manjil, Bara Katra, National Museum, Karzan Hall, Bangla Academy, Ramna Park, Baldha Garden, Shakhari Bazar, Ram Krishna Temple, Dhakeshwari Temple, Armanitola Mosque, National Monument of Martyrs/Shaheed Minar, Armenian Church, St. Mary’s Cathedral, Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Tara Mosque, Binat Bibi Mosque, Bahadur Shah Park, Liberation War Museum, Museum of Independence, Rayer Bazar Bodhyo Bhumi. 

New Dhaka:

National Zoo, Botanical Garden, National Parliament House, National War Museum, Military Museum, National Planetarium, Holy Rosary Church, Kawran Bazar (largest wholesale market), Bashundhara City Shopping Complex, Jamuna Future Park, Chandrima Udyan and Crescent Lake, Hatirjheel Lake. 

Outside of Municipal Area:

National Memorial at Savar, Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ), Panam City.

Food:

The culinary customs of the nation's capital have been influenced by Mughals, Central Asian, Armenian, Persian and native Bengali cuisines. The city's cuisine also has unique local dishes.

The Nawabs (emperors) of Dhaka brought Mughlai cuisine to Bengal. Mughlai cuisine is often lavish and expensive and was out of reach for many people up for many centuries, becoming more widespread as Bangladesh's economy grew. It is characterized by the use of meat and dairy ingredients such as lamb, mutton, beef and yoghurt together with mild spices. Its dishes include: 

  1. Kebab
  2. Stuffed breads
  3. Kacchi biriyani
  4. Roast lamb
  5. Duck and chicken
  6. Patisapta
  7. Kashmiri tea and 
  8. Korma

Chowk Bazaar in Old Dhaka is a centuries-old food market and a focal point during Ramadan for the Iftar meal after sunset.

Besides there are more dishes to be explored; like Haji Biriyani, Kacchi Biriyani, Bhuna Khichuri, Bakharkhani, Morog Polau, Grilled Chicken with Naan Roti, Haleem, Fuchka, Misti Doi (Sweet Yoghurt), Lassi, Mejbani Gosht (a beef curry for special occasions), Kala bhuna (blackened beef).
